Department Introduction

  The Department of Osteoarthropathy / Bone Tumor at Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital was established in 1987. In 2010, it was approved as a National Key Clinical Specialty by the Ministry of Health, and in 2018, it became the first National Key Clinical Specialty in Shenzhen.   The Osteoarthropathy Department was one of the first clinical departments in Shenzhen to perform artificial joint replacement surgeries. In recent years, the department has made significant progress in medical, educational, and research capabilities, becoming a leading institution for the treatment of joint diseases such as osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis of the femoral head, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, hip dysplasia, joint deformities, and elderly hip fractures. Its specialties include hip and knee joint replacement surgeries, minimally invasive surgeries for elderly hip fractures, and accelerated rehabilitation techniques.

  The department adopts a stepwise treatment approach, offering tailored options such as exercise therapy, joint-preserving hip and knee surgeries, minimally invasive procedures, and artificial joint replacement surgeries. Annually, the department performs over 1,000 joint replacement surgeries, achieving internationally and domestically advanced standards in terms of volume, complexity, and outcomes.

  The Bone Tumor Surgery Division specializes in limb-sparing surgery for bone tumors, customized tumor joint surgeries, pelvic tumor resection and reconstruction, and limb-sparing treatment of soft tissue sarcomas. Annually, the team performs over 100 complex limb-sparing reconstructive surgeries for malignant tumors.
